Malwarebytes is software that protects against malicious software and has a free or paid version. The version I'm going to be talking about is the paid version. The reason for preferring the paid version over free is that the free version has a pop up that repeatedly asks if you wish to purchase premium every hour or so. So what does Malwarebytes do well it focuses on removing what other forms of protection miss and can go hand in hand with an Anti-virus programme such as AVG. |
With the paid version you get quite a few features but the big change between the free and paid is that you get real time protection and a more extensive scanning system. In the settings you can also set up web exclusions and many more options to get the best performance. The most useful feautre in settings is selecting when Malwarebytes begins to protect your computer after you enter the desktop. This feature keeps the impact on your system to a minimum. Real Time protection is very useful for protecting you against harmful sites and will block access to any that may be a threat.
In the scan tab you get three options Threat Scan, Custom Scan and Hyper scan. Threat scan allows you to scan your entire computer for potentially harmful software and Custom scan enables you to direct the scanning process to a place of your choosing. Hyper scan is an option that is only available with the paid version and is another good reason to dish out the cash. Hyper scan is basically a quick scan that notifies you of any active malware threats. The reason why it's so important is that the speed of scans especially full scans can take hours and in the end you may find nothing. Alternatively if you use Hyper scan it will give you an idea of whether or not it's worth your time. This feature is useful for computers with less processing power and weaker components. In the History tab you can see what Malwarebytes has secured and opens up the option to restore the files or delete them.
Malwarebytes constantly updates it's database to ensure that you have the best protection even against new threats. The threat scan process is also very quick and easy to understand and the dashboard is user friendly. Even the most complicated features seem simple due to the automated nature of nearly everything. On top of that it barely impacts your system and has settings that allow you to lower the impact even more.
Overall Malwarebytes is an excellent piece of software and is perfect for anyone looking for air tight security. I would recommend that you use Malwarebytes with anti-virus software such as AVG or Panda Anti-virus as it doesn't deal with viruses and other malicious software like it.
