This one is for the gamers. Nexus Mod Manager or NMM for short is software that allows you to automatically install and remove mods from games. The reason for using a mod manager is to remove human error, as usually what you find when removing a mod manually is that files or folders get left behind, causing issues in the future.

NMM only supports a certain amount of games, most prominently the Fallout and Elder Scrolls Franchises. The mod manager is still in beta but is regularly updated and improved making for a smooth experience. The reason Nexus Mod Manager is my chosen manager is due to it's ease of use, simple layout and connection to it's website www.nexusmods.com. It is also fast and reliable which is an added bonus.
As a beginner I couldn't make sense of Mod Organizer or any other mod manager as they tended to display too much information and choice, leaving me puzzled and hesitant. NMM is simple and to the point giving you only the necessary information.. For example; installing a mod could never be easier, with a simple click you're finished and ready to go. That isn't all that makes NMM good, with every update comes new features and streamlining making functions that didn't work a month ago, work now. Features that may have been slow or complicated have been automated and made simple. |
Upon opening NMM for the first time you will be presented with a window asking if you want NMM to detect which games it is compatible with on your system. This is incredibly handy and has never failed to find my games. On top of that you can rescan any time. After scanning you can choose all the games that have been identified from a menu to mod and you can switch between games easily by going to Change Game Mode in the top right.
On the main dashboard you have your mods categorised and displayed clearly making for an enjoyable experience. A second tab displaying the plug-ins enables you to choose the load order which minimises crashing. You can also launch your game from NMM or launch a customised version allowing for more freedom. Overall most of the features are flushed out and work well. The features don't stop there, to the right when clicking on a mod the manager displays information on the mod. There is also automatic mod updating but it's a little buggy.
It's best to use NMM in conjunction with www.nexusmods.com as you can select the option download using NMM on the web page. The progress can then be tracked from within NMM in it's download centre and the best part is once it's finished it get's categorised and just need's to be installed.
