Due to "Rise of the Tomb Raider" being released on the 28th January for PC I thought I would do a review of Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider had everything that I had been looking for. Ever since I watched someone play Uncharted and The Last of Us I really wanted to play a game with adventure, a great story that makes you feel for the characters, good action and really good graphics. For me Tomb Raider did just that.

I bought Tomb Raider in 2014 at a cut down price of £5 and it was the best £5 I ever spent. Honestly I didn't expect anything from it and hadn't really given it much thought until I saw it on sale but as soon as I started playing I couldn't stop. It's just so enjoyable. What I found so good was that the story succeeds in making you want to find out more. Games can be like books, why would you turn the page if it's a boring story. There is so much to discover on the island that it's easy to get sidetrack and every part is interesting, enlightening you to new facts and events that give you a better understanding of the history and legend of the island.

On the island and throughout the story you have to deal with many different enemies and the scenarios you find yourself in can be very challenging. The main enemy is the human inhabitance who like you were ship wrecked, they have been seriously twisted by the island which make for some interesting cut scenes and dialogue. On top of that you also have the Storm Guard which are zombie like samurai warriors and animals such as wolves which can be fairly difficult to deal with.
The levelling system in the game is good and also gives you a skill point to spend. The skill tree is comprised of three different branches, Survivor, Hunter and Brawler and has useful upgrades to choose from which make a noticeable difference in game. Then there is the scavenging system where you collect scavenge by looting dead bodies or crates. You use the scavenge to upgrade weapons which improves things like accuracy, fire rate and clip size. The bow was my favourite weapon because it had so many uses and looked cool equipped. Weapons like the bow and shotgun weren't just useful in a fight, you had to fire arrows with rope tied to it in order to cross and the shotgun can be used to shoot out blocked up walls.
The platforming was really well done and the camera was always in the right position. My only gripe would be it was a little easy and when things go wrong you just have to press X. I would like to of seen more combos a bit like in one of the first scenes. The way that Lara dies if you do go wrong is brutal which I find more realistic and she gets beaten up so much I'm surprised walking is a possibility. Climbing was good fun as was the puzzle solving but also felt a bit easy which was good for me because I suck at it. Though I don't think it takes away from the game as I found that there wasn't to much emphasis on puzzle solving.
Overall Tomb Raider is a great game and is a good come back title. I think that both faithful Lara Croft fans and first timers will enjoy the game as it has the right balance of action, adventure and mystery. And who doesn't like a good story that you can immerse yourself in.
