One of the number one causes of PC problems is viruses, spyware, malware and other malicious software that basically stop your computer from running properly. Malicious software can also lead to theft of information such as your identity, passwords and even bank details depending on what you store on your computer. Therefore in this Top Tips I will be writing about how to keep your computer safe. |
My first tip is quite obvious and that is to install anti-virus and anti-malware software. If you dont fancy paying for protection then AVG and Malwarebytes are your best bet. The reason for this is that they have a good track record, are well known and have a good amount of features for being free. Both can also automatically detect harmful programmes and software. With all anti-virus and malware software you can set times for scans such as once every week or once a day. Overall you up the chances of keeping your PC safe if you have some kind of protection and it is more than likely going to help you if any problems arise.
My next tip is to scan all downloads using an extension scan. Most malicious software comes from downloading things from the internet. It's a good idea to scan downloaded content that you may not trust before doing anything with it. Just keep in mind that free anti-virus and other protection will have a hard time if you install software that is infected as you must give administrative access during the instillation process. Once you click on it there is no going back so be careful. You may even want to scan all your downloads even if they are from websites you trust.
My final tip is to use a link scanner which scans links that you click and tells you if it detects anything suspicious. Websites are another common reason for computers being infected so it's always good to be vigilant when surfing the web. Trusted websites and websites that are used most will be fine and therefore the opposite is also true. The link scanner will put a tick or cross next to each link to inform you but isn't always accurate as links with a cross next to them may be fine.
At the end of the day just as long as you stay vigilant and do everything you can to protect your PC you should be fine. On a side note for even better protection always get the paid version of any software. Look around on Amazon and other retailers and you'll get a better deal than buying directly.
